sum of summer
By Shannon | June 25, 2009
I suppose as a kid, in the summer time had my mom put out workbook pages for me to do I would have run screaming to the hills. I also suppose that if I had to do chores on a regular basis, I would have held my breath till I was blue too. But this does not stop me from doing those things to my kids.
Ireland is 51/2, and will be a month out of being 6 when the school year starts. Cameron was 51/2 when K started, Brayden was 5 1/4 when K started. Both boys worked on reading and then by Christmas of that year had no problems. I would like Ireland to be reading by the time school starts.
Not for any reason other than, if she is prepared for the situation, she will ease into so much smoother. If she goes in comfortable with herself, then she’ll have the confidence she needs. I don’t feel like I’m pushing her, and she enjoys the work, so hopefully she wont write a blog about me when she’s older about all the horrible things she had to do.
The boys (and Ireland) are in a Spanish Immersion school. They learn math and science in Spanish, the rest in English. So entering the the 7th grade , they will have had 7 yrs of Spanish. Pretty cool right? Then the summer hits and they have no intention of reading a Spanish book, doing a Spanish science project or a Spanish math problem. Thats where I come in.
My summer does not ooze school work, but I do have a closet full of workbooks and the books they worked on during the year. I’m not asking they go to summer school , but that they review, and skim it, go through it, and maybe when Sept 8 rolls around in 73 days, that they havent lost everything they learned.
Maybe it’s Mommy-goggles…you know, like Beer goggles…seeing something, wishing for something else, waking up to the reality the next day.

It’s funny how life can be rolling along just fine, and then bam! you kinda get sucker punched. And all on a Monday. I call a do-over.

I have been a All My Children fan for quite some time - I enjoy Tad Martin. He cracks me up.
Anyhoo,
I have been working out daily the last 4 days. Ireland is in a morning camp, so that just lends to me dropping her off and going straight to the gym. Today I skipped the walk after because of rain, but I made up for it in front of the wii. Seriously, I may have hurt myself.
I do not find it enjoyable when a video game mocks me. But I showed it what for and kicked it’s ass. I wish I could feel the love of all this exercising, but alas…not yet. And mind you, I have been working out since late March., not every day but between walking and working out at the gym, I would have hopped for better results. At least feeling better. Right now I just feel like my feet are likely to fall off at any moment. Probably while I’m walking and 2 miles away from the house.
I’ll be sure to update you on any miracle results. Pray.

100
By Shannon | May 28, 2009
Well, there it is, at the top of my page… 100 days until the 1st day of school. For Ireland it will be the 1st day of kindergarten. For me, it will be my 1st day as a pre-school teacher. Yup. I did get offered a job at the pre-school, all my hard butt-kissing worked and they saw what they would be missing work paid off and I will be teaching 2/3 yr olds. 4 afternoons a week, also allowing me to sub in the mornings, but more importantly I will be home in the afternoon when they get off the bus. I will be home for summer break, for Spring break, for Christmas break. I will be home for teacher work days, and snow days. I have stressed about my life for so long, and when I stopped, and gave it up to the universe, things started to fall into place. Not that I said, oh well, and stopped working towards my goal. But I did say, I can only do what I can do, and I will let it all happen the way it is supposed to.
And it did.
I got A’s in all my classes… I got on the Deans list because of that… I was noticed by the important higher ups, and I landed the job… Now, just back to enjoying the summer, and busting my ass on the treadmill, and come the 1st day of school? All will be well.

done.

Well, I didn’t wear a cap and gown. I didn’t ‘walk’. There was no big graduation party or lavish gift. And I don’t have a job. But I did get my Instructional Assistant Certification.
I am proud of what I accomplished and the fact that I did it while working 3 jobs, and that I received A’s in all my classes, putting me on the Dean’s list. (That in itself is huge)
So here I sit, 115 days until my baby girl leaves me all day to go to Kindergarten, and I need to find something to fill my days with. Unfortunately, everyone else in the free world is thinking the same and there are no jobs that will fit into our schedule.
Next year though is the only year that all 3 kids will be at the same school…that could be my job!!!

photo diva…
By Shannon | April 21, 2009
Sunday we went to a photo shoot. Originally it was to be all the kids with my mom, but Brayden got sick, so it ended up being Ireland and her first taste of the modeling world. We had fun, and although she had a bit of troouble communicating with the photograhper because he is deaf, she really took to him and found her inner diva. I, however see that side of her all the time.
These pictures of what I took, finding my inner diva.

Generations
By Shannon | April 1, 2009
George(on the left) and Ryan (on my right) met 3 generations of my family after we saw them perform in Celtic Thunder.
My daughter loved it! And they were delighted to meet someone named Ireland. I had Hub download the music for me and when we got home I was able to hand my father and her their own copies. He’s handy like that.
The group sings a song called Irelands Call…so you can bet that’s her favorite one. Back near St Patricks day I signed her up for Irish dance lessons. at this point, its more learning about it and the music , more so strapping on clogs and getting to it. (i’ll let you know how that all goes)
*on a side note, I know she’s cool and all, but do any of you really care what Michelle Obama wears when she meets the Queen?
